E-petitions
Petitions you are invited to sign.
Anyone who wishes to add to this list can post me in channels or use my contact form. I certainly believe in people's right to make their voices known, even if I don't agree with the petition myself.
Active government E-petitions
Prohibit referendums unless they are pledged in election manifesto
Any proposed referendum, at either national or devolved level, must have the agreement of the electorate. No government within the United Kingdom should conduct a referendum without first, openly, proposing such and receiving an electoral mandate.
A party may have ulterior motive that is not made clear in an election campaign. While parliamentary or assembly process may block such legislation, referendums are divisive and contentious. The electorate ought to know beforehand if any political party intends to run a referendum. Let the electorate be the first judges in these matters.
Change our electoral system to Proportional Representation for true democracy
Please repeal First Past the Post and install a system which truly reflects the will of the people - surely PR, where votes = seats nationally rather than just the most popular candidate of a specific local area, is the only truly democratic way forward.
(With a special thanks to Roger Cracknell who fervently wants a PR electoral system)
One day this individual spent hours trying to convince me that...
If only we had had a proportional representation voting system, brexit would never have happened.
Boris wouldn't have won and we would have had a second referendum and we would have voted to remain (this is the logical fallacy known as the "complex question" and "slippery slope").
I explained to him that I was quite happy with the FPTP system, which links MPs to constituencies and I was not in favour of a half baked PR system that squeezes out independents and leads to months of deadlock over forming a government.
And as usual he had a bee in his bonnet over the "50%" magical number.
I explained that nobody in the UK was interested in a PR voting system. I showed him all the previous E-petitions which hadn't even achieved the 10k watershed of triggering a government response.
I offered to pin a link to the current one to my website and invite people to sign it, and told him it will get nowhere.
😎 So that's what I did.
Establish free movement & trade agreements with Canada, Australia & New Zealand
As the UK concludes its transition period with the EU, the government should seek new diplomatic arrangements with Canada, Australia & New Zealand (CANZUK), formulating reciprocal migration & trade agreements between these countries to improve work and travel opportunities for citizens.
